Resource Manager functionality allows you to manage local resources (installed with a modeling tool or downloaded separately) and resources available on the server/shared repository.

With Resource Manager, you can manage different types of resources, such as Profiles, Plugins, Templates, Language resources, Case studies/examples, Custom diagrams, and others.

The Resource Manager functionality allows you to:

  • Install the resources
  • Update the resources
  • Distribute needed resources internally (including the company's developed resources)
  • Check dependency of a resource

The Resource/Plugin Manager helps you manage the resources. You can add the resources to your modeling tool from the following locations:

  • Local file system
  • Network share

Getting started with Resource/Plugin Manager

To open the Resource/Plugin Manager dialog

  • From the Help menu, select Resource/Plugin Manager

The Resource/Plugin manager dialog.

To see the resource details

  1. In the Resource/Plugin Manager dialog, select the necessary plugin or other resources.
  2. Click Details. The dialog expands with the resource description at the bottom.

Installing resources from a local file system or network share

You can install all resources at once from the .rdzip file or import selected resources individually. Alternatively, you can import resources from the server/shared repository using a link provided by your admin. Last but not least, you can share the .rdzip file you have internally.

Where do I get the latest plugins from?

You can download an all plugins bundle (.rdzip file) from nomagic.com (please log in to see the Download area). Alternatively, you can import resources from a server/shared local repository your admin gave a link to.

Importing resources from a local file system

You can add individual resources in a .zip format using the Import functionality, or you can add all resources (.rdzip file) at once via the Manage Resource Locations dialog that is used for defining locations from which resources are added to Resource/Plugin Manager.

To add selected resources

  1. Open Resource/Plugin Manager
  2. Click the Import button at the bottom of the window and then select the resource in the .zip format to add to your modeling tool.
  3. Click Open. The selected resource is imported.

Specifying resources location

To add a resources location

  1. Open Resource/Plugin Manager.
  2. Click the  button.
  3. In the Manage Resource Locations dialog, click Add.
  4. Specify a resource location on your file system/network share or a specific .rdzip file and click Open. The resource location is added.

You can manage the list displayed in the Manage Resource Locations dialog by adding, removing, or reordering the resource locations.

Importing resources from a server or network share

You can also import resources from a web server or local share if the URL has been provided to you. All you need to do is to enter it in the Manage Resource Locations dialog.

To specify the server where the resources and their descriptor file are located

  1. In the Manage Resource Locations dialog, click Add URL. The Resource Server URL dialog opens.
  2. In the open Resource Server URL dialog, type or paste the server address.
  3. Click OK.

The resources from the selected location will be listed in the Resource/Plugin Manager.

Adding resources to a server or network share

You can share resources (.rdzip file) internally, e.g., on a company level if you have already obtained an all plugins bundle (.rdzip file).

The resource distribution file (.rdzip) contains the resources and their descriptor file. If you are using the web server for the resource distribution, make sure that the resource distribution file (.rdzip) is extracted into the intended server location.

Distributing resources

You can bundle your resources into one .rdzip file and then distribute that file on a local file system, network share, or web server.

To build the resources file, you need the Development Tools plugin to be installed. The Development Tools plugin can either be installed from the No Magic Server in the Resource/Plugin Manager, or can be found in the no-cost resource distribution file.

For more information about building the resource distribution file, read Building a resource distribution file.

Manage Resource Locations

The Manage Resource Locations dialog is used for defining the locations from which the resources will be added to the Resource/Plugin Manager.

To open the Manage Resource Locations dialog

  • In the Resource/Plugin Manager dialog, click the ... button.

In the Manage Resource Locations dialog, you will be able to see the defined resource locations. You can manage this locations list by adding, removing, or reordering the resource locations.

  • The No Magic server is not available for the Magic Software Engineer, Magic Systems of Systems Architect, and Magic Cyber Systems Engineer modeling tools.
  • The resource distribution file (.rdzip) is added to a specific folder (<install.root>/data/resourcemanager/distribution>) for the Magic Software Engineer, Magic Systems of Systems Architect, and Magic Cyber Systems Engineer modeling tools. This location is set by default for all the new modeling tools.
